Mind Map in XLX kindergarten

How did mind mapping, a highly effective tool for structured thinking, make its way into IB kindergartens and become another powerful thinking tool for IB learners? Let's see how the IB Kindergarten Songjiang Learning Star does it!

How can we get kids to think better?

What are children competing for in the future? Thinking skills are undoubtedly one of the most important parts. As the only IB-certified kindergarten in Songjiang District, Songjiang Xuelexing Kindergarten has a comprehensive system for developing children's underlying thinking skills.

In addition to the IB teaching methodology, Songjiang Learning Star has once again empowered the children with another powerful thinking tool - mind mapping.

What is  mind map?

Mind Map is an effective graphical thinking tool.It uses both pictures and text to show the relationship between different levels of the theme in a hierarchical diagram. It can help us to clear our minds and reshape a more organized body of knowledge.

The Songjiang X.L.X Mind Map program helps children to capture key information more quickly and sharply in IB exploration, and also helps children to quickly establish a framework and pulse of thinking with its easy-to-learn and easy-to-use features, allowing children to think like scientists and thinkers from an early age.

Thinking maps can effectively enhance children's memory, overall planning ability, and expand the hierarchy and associative nature of their thinking.

How to use  mind map?

Then How can children use mind maps and acquire the skills to draw them?

Songjiang X.L.X approach is that teachers become good mind mappers first! Under the guidance and leadership of Director Ding, the IB teachers had an in-depth study of mind mapping before officially using the tool. The teachers realized that mind mapping can be used in all aspects of life and work, which will help them better collect teaching resources and inspiration for their daily teaching. They not only practiced drawing mind maps during the learning process, but also shared their learning experiences with each other.

mind map+ IB PYP?

The K1 Kids are working on the IB PYP  theme "Who are we?" When the teacher introduced the "Family Tree" mind map into the IB exploration process, the small children showed great receptiveness. They also went home and drew their own "Family Tree" with their parents and shared it on stage. The teachers noticed that the children's expressions became more organized with the help of mind maps! More information was shared!

How do the Children in K3 use mind maps? Let's take a look at their ongoing IB super subject theme "Who We Are - Community" to find out. When the teacher asked, "What is in your community? The children drew a mind map directly! The children used simple outlines to turn a long list of information into colorful, easy-to-remember, highly organized pictures. Although the brush strokes are a little young, what more than coloring and drawing can a child practice? It's the thinking skills that count!

The successful application of mind mapping in IB exploration gave the teachers a lot of encouragement and inspiration. In the future, Songjiang X.L.X IB teachers will continue to explore their potential, apply mind mapping to all aspects of life and work, continuously refine their teaching skills, and grow together with the children!

The combination of mind mapping and IB inquiry will better empower the IB babies!
